Music Therapy at Center For Children
Music creates neurochemical and emotional responses which can be very beneficial to hospital patients experiencing stress or pain.
The Music Therapy program at the Center for Children takes place in the playroom, at the bedside, in the clinic waiting room, and in treatment rooms. The goal is to involve patients and family in the music making process as much as possible. Participation ranges from relaxing in a musical atmosphere, to patients experimenting on an instrument and creating music.
Many patients gain noticeable positive physical and cognitive development as a result of music therapy. Immediate changes are evident; crying stops, sleeplessness is overcome, pain is distracted, muscles relax, many big smiles appear in the midst of difficult situations, and some very therapeutic laughter arises.
Music Therapy provides relaxation, distraction, stimulation, mental and motor development, and respite from boredom. The Center for Children is happy to be able to provide this added benefit to patients.
