After sustaining a brain injury or experiencing a neurological illness,
a person may experience a wide range of physical, cognitive, communication,
behavioral, and emotional changes. The Neurorehabilitation Service
at Rusk at 17th Street is designed to provide a structured therapeutic
program that can be specifically tailored to meet the medical needs of
each person or consumer. Five programs serve as the basis for the
Neurorehabilitation Service:
- The Stimulation Program
- The Behavioral Management Program
- The Orientation Program
- The Cognitive-Linguistic Program
- The Life Skills Program
When a consumer arrives to the Inpatient Brain Injury Unit, he or she
is assessed by the multidisciplinary team and then assigned to one of
the five programs listed above based on his or her physical and cognitive
needs. During his or her hospital admission, the consumer might
be moved to another program based on his or her progress.
The goal of our program is to re-establish independence and self-sufficiency
for the purpose of continuing a full, rewarding, and enjoyable life.
Our program is cost-effective, patient centered and family focused.
