The Prevention Cohort Study is an on-going study for HIV negative, at-risk individuals. Volunteers in this study receive HIV testing and risk-reduction counseling several times a year. There are no medications used in this study.

Patient Population
HIV negative men and women age 18 and over.

Study Objective
The objective of this study is to learn more about the types of behavior that put people at risk for HIV infection, to gain more information about the rate of HIV infection in men and women in New York City, and to learn about the changes in someone's immune system that might facilitate infection with HIV.

Study Scheme
Volunteers in the Prevention Project receive free rapid HIV Antibody testing with results in 20 minutes and a PCR, or Viral Load, test to rule out recent infection at every visit.
Volunteers are seen every 3 months for up to 5 years.
Volunteers who become HIV infected during the course of the Project will be offered enrollment in a treatment trial that provides free medications and connection to other care opportunities. For more information about that treatment trial, click here.
Volunteers will be compensated for their time.
