Bellevue Hospital Center is the oldest public hospital in the country. Its mission is to provide high quality, respectful, and accessible health care to the people of our neighboring community and to all of New York City.
Bellevue is a modern, full service facility providing comprehensive medical, surgical, obstetric, and psychiatric care, as well as social services. A member of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation's South Manhattan Healthcare Network, Bellevue is the principal teaching hospital for the New York University School of Medicine.
Since the beginning of the HIV epidemic, Bellevue has been in the forefront of providing state-of-the-art care and is accredited by the New York State AIDS Institute as a Designated AIDS Center (DAC). Bellevue's Virology Services provides care to approximately 2,200 HIV-positive men, women, adolescents and children a year. Through a "one-stop shopping" model, Bellevue offers primary medical, gynecological, and oral health care; mental health and child life services; social work and case management; treatment adherence support; harm reduction; and nutritional care. In addition, patients have access to clinical trials through the NYU/Bellevue AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) located on the Bellevue campus.
Bellevue offers HIV counseling and testing services at no cost to the patient and actively links patients who test positive to medical care, support services, and benefits. Currently, Bellevue is expanding its rapid testing program, which makes results available in under an hour.
