About Your Visit

Our AquariumWhat to Expect

Your first appointment to the Hassenfeld Children’s Center will be a very busy one because we have so much to show you. During your first visit you will get to meet the Hassenfeld staff who will be part of your care team.

After you check in with the receptionist, a staff member will take you on a tour of the clinic and get you started with any necessary paperwork and medical evaluations.

It may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but the Hassenfeld team will help to guide you every step of the way.

We invite you to explore the spaces around our waiting area: the Playroom, the fish tank, the Teen Room, the Family Pantry, the Music Room, the Wellness Room, and our Education Center/Library. Each of these spaces has special activities that are available to patients, their siblings, and their family members.

Patient RoomThe Hassenfeld staff and our dedicated volunteers work very hard to make each clinic visit fun and positive. Patients are encouraged to go to the Playroom to socialize, to create artwork, to grab a snack, to do homework, or to participate in daily activities.

Older patients enjoy using the Teen Room for relaxing, playing videogames, watching movies, using the computer, or studying for school.

Each visit begins with a check of the patient’s height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. If needed, blood tests can be performed onsite for quick results. Musical accompaniment, medical play, and our Nursing staff help to make this easy as possible.
