Whatever you're looking for, the Office of Student Affairs is a great
place to start. The Staff are extremely knowledgeable about issues that
affect students' lives both inside and outside the classroom. And even
when they don't know the answer, they can almost always point you in
the right direction. Through a series of programs the Office of Student
Affairs provides the link between the classroom and the community and
has, as its focus, four primary areas:
Co-Curricular Activities
Many students become involved in clubs or organizations while at the
School of Medicine. And with over 50 clubs to choose from there is no
shortage of ways to become involved or events in which to participate.
The Office of Student Affairs provides support and advisement to these
organizations and, in turn, assists students in making the most of
them. The office also works with students and student groups to develop
and carry out a wide variety of community service projects throughout
the year.
Through the Office of Student Activities, a subdivision of Student
Affairs, students (as well as staff) are provided with discounted
recreational opportunities such as Broadway show or movie tickets in
and around New York City. This office can also assist students in
planning and arranging many student functions both on and off-campus.
Policies and Procedures
The Office of Student Affairs informs students about policies and
procedures that impact their lives. The office will also work with
students to develop policies that are important to them or that impact
the quality of student life.
Academic Advisement and Support
Assisting students
in making career and life decisions is one of the most important
responsibilities we have. Students can come to the Office of Student
Affairs to obtain advisement on residencies, basic science or clinical
concerns, study habits or simply find a sympathetic ear. The Office
also assists students in complementing their academic experiences by
providing help with summer or international job opportunities, elective
opportunities, community service projects or research projects. If
someone in this office doesn't know the answer, they can certainly
refer you to someone who does.
Information
The Office of Student Affairs
publicizes the wide variety of policies, opportunities, services and
general information through various publications, regular emails and
notifications. Some of these include the Student Directory, Student
Handbook, Summer Opportunities Database, International Opportunities
Database, student travel policies, scholarship and award opportunities
and community service projects. Thank you for visiting the Office of Student Affairs
