First World Trade Center Community Forum
-
Numerous Center members, including Drs. Joan Reibman, Lung Chi Chen, Beverly Cohen, and George Thurston, shared their expertise regarding the environmental aspects of the World Trade Center disaster at numerous public forums, including at New York City schools (regarding possibly returning to schools after 9/11, including Stuyvesant HS, PS 104, and PS150), at hospitals (e.g., NYU Downtown Hospital), and at community-organized public forums (e.g., at Pace University in Lower Manhattan).

Dr. Thurston presented to NYC Council Candidates about issues of asthma and air pollution in New York City

A community forum took place in the South Bronx on the issue of urban air pollution and its potential health effects earlier in that year. This forum was conducted as part of a Center Supplement that we received from NIEHS in conjunction with the NIEHS Center at the University of Rochester. This "Science and Community Interaction" was held on June 16, 2001, at Hostos Community College in the South Bronx. This forum brought together researchers, community groups, and local residents to discuss this study, asthma, and other local air quality concerns. Several local community organizations jointly co-sponsored the event, which featured scientific experts from NYU and speakers from the community.
