The Emergency Care Institute, located in Bellevue Hospital, is the training arm of the Department of Emergency Medicine. As such, it provides training to physicians, registered nurses, paramedics, medical students, allied health professionals, and the community in areas of emergency care and public health.
Our mission is to provide quality educational programs that promote safety and improve the quality of healthcare and personal well-being for the general public. Our faculty and staff consist of faculty members, residents, and registered nurses from the Department of Emergency Medicine, as well as paramedics and EMTs certified in their specialty.
We are dedicated to our community's health and safety. To meet these goals, the institute offers courses in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR), First Aid, Infant Child CPR and safety, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS), and automatic external defibrilator training (AED) as approved by the American Heart Association. Annual programs offered in conjunction with the NYC Poison Control Center and NYU Postgraduate Medical School include Clinical Toxicology, Contemporary Concepts in Clinical Emergency Medicine, Emergency Radiology, and International Emergency Medicine. An ongoing association with New York University's Center for Corporate Wellness allows the faculty of the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Care Institute the opportunity to provide programs for the corporate sector as well.
