Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine

Welcome to the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine!

The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients, our students and trainees, and the broader community through excellence in patient care, education, and research.

We have the privilege of caring for over 300,000 patients annually at our clinical sites across Manhattan and Brooklyn.  Our patients represent the full spectrum of the human condition: a culturally diverse and ethnically rich community. We are committed to providing the highest level of care and comfort during their time of greatest need.

The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine is invested in developing the next generation of healthcare leaders—those who will help transform care and improve our neighbors’ lives. We aim to populate academic medical centers, international health systems, community hospitals, research centers and public health agencies with committed, dedicated, well-rounded professionals.  We have an unwavering commitment to create a department with a rich learning environment. We continuously evaluate and evolve our educational curriculum and incorporate innovative learning theories and strategies including: asynchronous learning, flipped classroom, FOAM, social media, interactive small group discussion and simulation.

Addressing society’s most complex problems is the mission of our clinical research division.  We conduct cutting edge research with local, national and global impact across various themes including homelessness, alcoholism, end-of-life care, health literacy, predictive analytics, and safe care delivery systems. We continue to advance our efforts and recently developed programs in the NYC public school system and to help vulnerable and other at risk immigrant populations.

Our goal is simple: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients, to elevate the health of our local and global communities, and to innovate and lead as we prepare our trainees to become future healthcare leaders.

We are here to make a difference…every day.
