Protocol approval is granted for a 12-month period. Near the end of this period, IACUC Office will send you a renewal reminder letter and form. The renewal reminder letter and form must be returned in order to renew the project.

Protocol must be renewed before the date of expiration. Animals can no longer be ordered under an expired protocol. It is a violation of PHS Policy and the USDA and NYSDOH rules and regulations, to perform experiments under an expired protocol.

After three years, a full IACUC Protocol Form must be submitted to renew the protocol. IACUC Office will notify you which IACUC Protocol Form is required to renew protocol.

If you inactivate your protocol, a new protocol form must be submitted to resume work even if there are no changes proposed.

IACUC Protocols are kept on file in the IACUC Office. These forms are reviewed by the inspectors from United States Department of Agriculture, and the New York State Department of Health during their site visits.
