Professor Hlavacek is a world renowned expert on footwear and has conducted research on shoes across the globe, most famously on the oldest Europeans shoes, the shoes worn by a Stone Age man, Otzi, found in South Tyrol, and replicas of the oldest sandals in the world found in Oregon.
In addition to studying the history of footwear, Professor Hlavacek is also interested in the relationship between the shoes we wear and our health. He is involved in studying the impact of contemporary footwear ergonomics on our health and in developing technologies that would improve shoes for healthy people and people suffering from chronic diseases.
