Born and raised in New York, Laura is currently a graduate student in the Pathobiology training program at NYU School of Medicine, Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.
As a member of the Diabetes Research Program, she is studying regression of atherosclerosis in diabetes.
While focusing on macrophages, a major question addressed is whether high glucose levels impair regression.
If so, does the RAGE knockout model reverse this? In various in vivo and in vitro experiments she is elucidating the role of RAGE/mDia1 interaction in regression and investigating macrophage properties in atherosclerotic lesions (migration, influx, egress patterns).
