Instructions for Gifts of Securities*

 

 

Thank you for contemplating a gift of securities to NYU Medical Center. We appreciate your generosity and provide the following guide to make your gift transaction as simple as possible.

 

NOTE: ONLY A GIFT OF LONG TERM SECURITIES (HELD FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR AND ONE DAY) WILL ENABLE YOU TO AVOID RECOGNITION OF THE CAPITAL GAIN AND TO DEDUCT THE FULL FAIR MARKET VALUE. PLEASE CONSULT YOUR TAX ADVISOR.

 

 

If the securities are held in your brokerage account, you may follow these procedures:

 

  • If the securities have increased in value since you acquired them, and if you have held them over one year, you avoid recognition of the capital gain only if your broker transfers the securities themselves. Do not have your broker sell the securities and transfer the proceeds.

 

  • Instruct your broker to transfer the securities to: JPMorgan Chase & Co., DTC #902, for New York University gift account number P25685.

 

  • Instruct your broker to call Clara Wormser or Elisa Cohen at the NYU Treasurer’s Office, (212) 998-2790, to advise of the pending transfer to JPMorgan Chase. JPMorgan Chase may decline acceptance without prior notification from NYU of the exact number of shares to be transferred.

 

  • Your broker will require you to provide your instructions in writing. The attached form sets forth the necessary instructions for your use.

 

  • Call Marilyn Van Houten, NYU Medical Center, at (212) 404-3653 to inform us of the upcoming transfer and to expedite its receipt and appropriate crediting at the University. If you are using the attached form to provide instructions to your broker, please fax a copy of the form to fax number (212) 404-3687, or send a copy to us at the above address.

 

 

 

*These instructions cannot be used for mutual fund transfers.
