The Department is located primarily in three facilities within 10 blocks along
First Avenue: Tisch Hospital, in which the Charles
C. Harris Skin & Cancer Pavilion is located; Bellevue Hospital Center;
and the New York Harbor Health Care System (formerly the Department of Veteran's
Affairs Medical Center). At each institution full-time members of the faculty
direct the clinical and teaching components of the program. The faculty consists
of more than 100 full- and part-time physicians and scientists. Over 100,000
outpatient dermatologic visits are recorded annually. At each institution, in-patient
consultations are answered by a member of the residency staff in conjunction
with a faculty member.
Basic dermatologic training is obtained in the ambulatory clinics, where patients are seen primarily by residents under the supervision of faculty members. In addition to the general consultative clinics, which have been organized to ensure continuity of care, there are specialty clinics organized to deal with specific problems in the areas of dermatologic surgery, laser, dermatopharmacology, pediatric dermatology, diseases of hair and nails, photomedicine, immunodermatology, dermatologic oncology and lymphomas, pigmented lesions, Hansen's disease, connective tissue, sexually transmitted diseases, bullous diseases, and others.
Integral components of the Department are the Dermatopathology Unit, which evaluates over 60,000 specimens/year, and the Immunofluorescence laboratory, which receives 2,000 specimens/year. These specimens are analyzed by our faculty working closely with residents, trainee and medical students.
The Orentreich Conference Room and Mobile Library are used in conjunction with the Dermatologic Research Library for our clinical teaching program.
