When to Refer Your Patient
Refer your patient for evaluation if you observe:
A new onset cough that lasts for more that 1-2 weeks.
Shortness of breath that occurs suddenly or that seems to be worsening over a few weeks.
Coughing up of blood
New onset hoarseness
Chest pain or arm pain
Weight loss and loss of appetite
Difficulty swallowing or a feeling that the food gets “stuck”
The appearance of any “glands” low in the neck
