Mend-a-Heart 2002

NYU Medical Center honored the FDNY and three pediatric heart surgery patients who lost their fathers at the World Trade Center tragedy during its seventh annual Mend-A-Heart event, Sunday, February 10th from 12:30 until 4:30 p.m. This year's event was dedicated to these three families and some of New York's greatest heroes -the FDNY. Engine 16, Ladder Company 7 located on 29th Street was honored and played a major role in the day's activities. Mend-A-Heart is held each year as a 'celebration of life' for NYU's pediatric heart surgery patients and their families.

The children enjoyed a special visit from Shrek and Donkey, entertainment, lots of activities, and special guest appearances.

Stephen Colvin, MD, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Aubrey Galloway, MD, Director of Cardiac Surgical Research, performed congenital heart repair surgery on these children who come from the greater New York area as well as from around the world, many with high-risk life-threatening conditions.

Mend-A-Heart 2002 was sponsored by the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Pediatric Cardiology, and Women's Auxiliary. Approximately 600 were in attendance.
