Outreach

The Outreach Core plays a critical role in fostering partnerships with outside institutions and the Center.  This core is often the first point of contact for community based groups, media, and non-health-related businesses and organizations who are interested in learning about and working with CSAAH.  It has been instrumental in educating Asian American communities regarding specific health issues and the significance of research in addressing health disparities, as well as educating health and social providers on matters related to cultural competency in Asian American communities.

The core's work in the areas of collaboration and coalition-building have been critical in the success of developing new grant applications and projects for the upcoming years.  In addition, they have been valuable in mobilizing the different community and academic groups around the issues of health disparities research in the Asian American community.

The specific aims of the Outreach core are as follows:

  • To engage Asian American communities in research and related activities that address disparities in health status

  • To educate Asian American communities regarding their risks for specific diseases and chronic conditions

  • To encourage minority participation in working in health disparities research focusing on the Asian American community
