Clinical Responsibilities
Gayatri Devi MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine and an Attending Physician at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Devi is the Director of the New York Memory and Healthy Aging Services. She is board certified in both specialties (Neurology and Psychiatry) by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. She is also board certified in Behavioral Neurology and in Pain Medicine. She has specialized in the early diagnosis and treatment of memory disorders related to aging and menopause for 12 years and is sub-specialty board certified in behavioral neurology. Dr. Devi obtained her Advanced Levels (Sciences) from the University of London and graduated from Grace University School of Medicine. She completed her internship at State University of New York Downstate and did her residencies in Psychiatry and Neurology there. She was Chief Resident of Neurology before becoming a fellow in Behavioral Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University. She was then Assistant Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at SUNY Stony Brook and Director of the Long Island Alzheimer's Disease Center. She returned to Manhattan as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Columbia University and was Director of the Memory Disorders Center at the Center for Women?s Health at Columbia Presbyterian-Eastside. She has been at her current practice for over 8 years. Dr. Devi has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. She has presented papers at national meetings of the American Neurological Association, the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the North American Menopause Society. She has appeared in the media to discuss memory disorders, including the BBC, Reuters, FOX, ABC, and 1010 WINS. She was a featured expert on a cover article of memory in Time magazine. She is president of the National Council for Women?s Health, New York. She has participated in and led several phase II and III clinical drug trials for the treatment of memory disorders. She is the author of "Estrogen, Memory and Menopause" (Alpha Sigma Books, 2001) and ?What your doctor may not tell you about Alzheimer?s Disease? (Time Warner Books; November 2004).
