Dr. Black is Vice President of the School of Medicine Faculty Council, University Senator, representing the School of Medicine, and Chair of the Faculty Senators Council. She contributes to the development and teaching of the Cells, Tissues and Organs Module for first year medical students, is the editor of the syllabus, "Cell Biology of Tissues and Organs", and serves as a mentor in the Lewis Thomas Society Masters Scholars Program. Her research interests lie in the structure and functions of the endoplasmic reticulum of steroid-secreting cells and colon, particularly of enzymes involved in sterol synthesis and metabolism
