The faculty at the Center for Brain Health (CBH) are committed to improving the understanding the biological causes of structural and functional brain changes with normal aging, memory loss, and Alzheimer’s disease. It is our mission to develop early diagnostic tests, to complement the great efforts at developing effective treatments for these conditions. Our focus is to use brain imaging technologies, biological markers from body fluids, and clinical information to identify the earliest features that predict future cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes and to enable accurate diagnoses.
The picture below highlights some of the work of CBH. It shows the changing anatomy of the hippocampus, a brain region important for memory, as affected by both age and disease. Current work at CBH targets the biochemical basis for these MRI brain changes.
