“Adults in Toyland Casino Night” co-chairs Susan Block Casdin, Kimberly Goodwin, Morgan Hertzan, Steven Jaffe, Patti Kim, Kelly Kennedy Mack, Harlan Fabrikant Saroken and Michael Weaver, hosted a fundraiser last Thursday, February 28, 2013, featuring casino games, D.J. Ray Jarrell, a silent auction, cocktails and buffet at The Plaza Hotel. The event raised $736,000 in funds to support psychosocial and emotional support services provided at the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (Hassenfeld Center) and children’s health services in the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Langone.
Presented by the Committee for the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and KiDS of NYU Langone, the event attracted over 600 New York City professionals from finance, fashion, entertainment, and real estate, among other industries, who share a commitment to improving the lives of children and their families who are treated at NYU Langone.
Proceeds from the event benefit the unique programs at the Hassenfeld Center and the Department of Pediatrics to ensure that children and families receive the best pediatric care possible. These programs include interim patient/family housing, bilingual child life therapy, and music and recreational therapy. Funds for the Department of Pediatrics will also be used to help support staff recruitment and the creation of child-friendly facilities.
Those in attendance at the event included: Dan Abrams, Carol Alt, Paul Arrouet and Dylan Lauren, Ellen Block, Trudy Gottesman, Chris and Richard Mack, Stephen Mack, Keith and Melissa Meister, Jonathan Patricof, Jeff Rossen of NBC News/TODAY who served as the night’s emcee, Jacqueline Sackler, Kimberly and Jonathan Schulhof, Jamie Tisch, Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch, Charlie and Lauren Walk, Rob Wiesenthal, and David Zinczenko.
Guests were also invited to bid on priceless silent auction items, including a Power Breakfast with Wall Street titan Ken Langone, a walk-on role in CBS network’s hit show, How I Met Your Mother, an in-home dinner party with private chef to the stars, Stephen Hartigan, and a NY Giants #1 Fan package. Caesars® Atlantic City in Atlantic City, N.J., was the leadership sponsor, and Gotham Magazine was the media sponsor.
Physician co-chairs were Linda Granowetter, MD, and Bret J. Rudy, MD, vice-chair, Department of Pediatrics. Attendees from the medical center included Robert I. Grossman, MD, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Medical Center, his wife Elisabeth Cohen, MD, and Catherine S. Manno, MD, chair, Department of Pediatrics.
