Before You Arrive

  • Patient's date of birth

  • When you schedule your appointment, a member of our staff will begin your pre-registration process. At that time, we will also let you know whether the hospital and your physician participate with your plan.
  • Several days before your appointment, you may get a call from one of our business office associates to review any questions you or we may have about your insurance.

Any previous test results that you can bring to the first visit are also helpful, including:

  • Reports from care recently provided outside NYU Langone Medical Center and the Perlmutter Cancer Center
  • Prior chest X-rays, CAT scans, mammography reports and films, PET scans, MRI scans, and bone scans that are available
  • Pathology slides and reports

Arrival & Registration
At your first visit, please check in. At that time, you may be directed to the registration area. You will be asked to check in on every visit, both at the main entrance and usually in the area or floor where you are being seen. Additional registration appointments may be scheduled periodically to update your demographic and insurance information. At some of our locations these updates can be handled by our front desk staff. When you check in, please feel free to ask our staff if you require assistance with updating your address, referring physician or insurance and they will direct to the appropriate staff

Financial Questions
Patients of Perlmutter Cancer Center may access care at a variety of NYU Langone Medical Center inpatient and outpatient settings.

These settings include visits to our inpatient facilities as well as visits to any one of our growing network of hospital-based outpatient centers and/or faculty group practice locations.

Note: NYU Hospitals Center and several of its hospital-based outpatient locations are considered Article 28 facilities. For these article 28 facilities, the billing system is different from what you may have experienced at other physician office practices. Rather than receiving a single bill for one visit, you may receive separate bills for the services provided by the hospital as well as the physician. We encourage you to contact your insurance company to understand your coverage for hospital and doctors’ visits.

  • For billing questions regarding services provided by your doctor, call 1-877-648-2964.
  • For billing questions regarding services provided by the hospital, call 1-800-237-6977.
Hospital charges include "technical fees," such as the cost of providing your care; use of the facility and support staff; imaging tests (x-ray, CT scan, MRI); procedures; treatment fees; infusion charges; lab fees; and/or supplies. Read more about hospital bills.

Financial Counselors and/or Business Office Associates can assist with questions about treatment authorization, physician visit referrals, alternative payment options and other insurance-related concerns.
