Emergency Medicine

Dr. Rahul Sharma is the Medical Director and Associate Chief of Service for the Tisch Hospital Emergency Department. Dr. Sharma graduated from the combined MD/MBA in Health Management Program at Tufts University and then went on to specialty training in Emergency Medicine at NYU Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital where he was selected to be a Chief Resident. During residency, he received several awards including the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation Leadership Award and the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA) National Leadership Award.

Prior to joining NYU Langone Medical Center, Dr. Sharma was the Assistant Director for Operations in the Department of Emergency Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center and had been involved in all aspects of the day to day clinical operations of the Weill Cornell Emergency Department and served on several departmental and institutional wide administrative committees and patient care initiatives. Under Dr. Sharma's leadership, the Weill Cornell Emergency Department had seen several improvements in quality, patient care, and clinical operations through various patient centered initiatives.

Dr. Sharma has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally and has participated in international and humanitarian projects in India, Guatemala, Jordan, Dubai, and the United Kingdom. He has authored book chapters and has published several articles in peer reviewed journals.

Dr. Sharma had had a distinguished career as a medical educator. He has a true passion for teaching and his commitment to the education of residents, students, and others is reflected in him being the recipient of two national teaching awards. In 2008, he received the Emergency Medicine Residents? Association (EMRA) National Excellence in Teaching Award and in 2010, Dr. Sharma was the recipient of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) National Faculty Teaching Award.

Dr. Sharma serves on several committees including the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) National Emergency Medicine Practice Committee. He is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) and is board certified in medical management by the Certified Commission in Medical Management/American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Sharma's interests include improvement in clinical operations, patient satisfaction assessment, and resident and mid-level provider education.
