Clinical Responsibilities

Dr. David M. Poppers is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine and an attending gastroenterologist at the Columbus Medical practice of NYU Langone Medical Center and at Bellevue Hospital Center.

Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Poppers specializes in colon cancer screening, gastrointestinal bleeding, general gastroenterology, and the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and conditions of the small intestine. Dr. Poppers is trained and experienced in performing colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, as well as advanced endoscopic procedures such as capsule endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and balloon-assisted enteroscopy, including single- and double-balloon enteroscopy procedures.

Dr. Poppers' prior research interests involve the study of serologic markers and treatments in inflammatory bowel disease and the use of capsule endoscopy and deep enteroscopy in the detection and treatment of polyps, ulcers, malignancies, and inflammatory conditions of the small intestine. Dr. Poppers has contributed numerous articles and abstracts, as well as a book chapter, to the scientific literature. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Poppers received his master of science (MSc) degree and PhD from the NYU School of Medicine, where he also went on to receive his medical degree. He underwent his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and completed his clinical fellowship at Harvard Medical School and his Gastroenterology fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He completed an additional fellowship in Interventional Endoscopy at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
