Clinical Responsibilities

Calvin Pan, MD is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Division of Gasteroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine at the NYU Langone Medical Center, New York University School of Medicine in New York.

Dr. Pan received his MD degree from State University of New York at Albany. After his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, the Long Island Campus for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, he completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in Long Island. Dr. Pan is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Pan maintains a large practice with a focus on Hepatology in New York City. He is also an active investigator in viral hepatitis and liver diseases. He has been a leading principle investigator for a number of multi-center trials for Hepatitis B and C. His research interest is focus on the field of natural history of viral hepatitis, antiviral therapy and the prevention of vertical transmission of hepatitis virus. He serves as a primary writer for the expert consensus guideline on chronic hepatitis B in the US (The management of chronic hepatitis B in Asian Americans) and the international expert consensus guideline on vertical transmission of hepatitis B (The algorithm for risk assessment and intervention of mother to child transmission of hepatitis B virus). He is presently a consultant for the China Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC) for their Hepatitis B vertical transmission trials and a steering member of the scientific committee of China Network for Severe Liver Diseases (CNSLD). His research findings have been presented at national and international liver meetings. He is an Associate Editor for the North American Journal of Medicine & Science and serves as a reviewer for many other journals, including Hepatology and Journal of Hepatology.

In addition to his research activities, he is very active in professional organizations. He currently serves as a committee member for the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), appointed abstract reviewer (2012-2015) for the annual Liver Meeting of AASLD and DDW, a committee member of The Coalition to Eradicate Viral Hepatitis in Asia Pacific (CEVHAP), a member of the National Task Force on Hepatitis B in the US, and a committee chair for the Asian Health Foundation (AHF). He has been recognized by his colleagues and honored with the title of the Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG). He was elected as "America's Top Physicians" with a biography featured by The Guide to America's Physicians and selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare by Marquis Who's Who. As an expert and key opinion leader in his specialty, he has organized many CME courses and has been invited to approximately thirty to forty lectureships annually at regional, national and international meetings or Web-CME events.
