Dr. Jafar is Professor of Neurosurgery, and Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at NYU Medical Center. He is also the director of the Division of Cerebrovascular Surgery at NYU. He did his residency training at The University of Chicago under Dr. Sean Mullan. Following that he was an Assistant and then Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he established the stroke research laboratory. He has had a lifelong interest in cerebral blood flow. While in Chicago he also established the cerebral blood flow laboratory and was honored with teacher of the year award. In 1989 he joined the Department of Neurosurgery at NYU and was responsible for the founding of the Division of Cerebrovascular Surgery, as well as the Center for Cerebrovascular disease. Dr. Jafar has had fellowship training in skull base tumor surgery with Professor Lindsay Simon at the National Hospital for Nervous Disease, at Queen Square, London, England, and in microsurgery with Professor Ghazi Yasargil in Zurich, Switzerland. He has participated in multiple multi-center trials. He is the author of more than 90 publications, mainly involving cerebrovascular disease, including a textbook on arteriovenous malformations. Dr. Jafar directs the multidisciplinary cerebrovascular center at NYU, which includes endovascular neurosurgeons, neurosurgeons, and neurologists.Languages
