While in residency, Dr. Cavaleri became one of the first recipients of the Empire State Clinical Research grant which allowed him to pursue research in understanding the underlying causes of cardiac arrythmias with Dr. Glenn Fishman. A recognized educator, Dr. Cavaleri was chosen to serve as one of the Chief Medical Residents where he assited in crafting the educational program for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He subsequently went on to a fellowship in cardiology at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine, where he focused on heart failure and echocardiography. Upon graduating from his fellowship he joined the faculty at the newly founded Department of Cardiology at Naussau University Medical Center in 2009. There he served as director of the coronary care unit and the acute myocardial infarction quality task force where he brought those services in line with national quality standards. In 2012 he returned to the NYU School of Medicine with a desire to apply the breadth of his experiences to a patient focused vision and cardiovascular health care, working together with patients to build a team centered approach to their care. He continues to be active in the education of residents and cardiology fellows. His current areas of interest include preventive cardiology, arrythmia and atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and the care of patients undergoing surgery.
