Intensive Personality Disorders Program
The IPDP is an interdisciplinary outpatient program located within Bellevue’s Psychiatric Outpatient Service. The program provides integrative treatment and assessments of patients suffering from personality pathologies (those with Axis II diagnoses). Therapeutic treatments include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, Trauma Therapy, and systemic modalities with a marked psychodynamic/relational emphasis. The model of treatment is based on the works of Masterson, Kernberg, Kohut, Herman, and Linehan. Externs carry a caseload of four or five patients in twice weekly therapy, co-lead a therapy group, and administer two or three testing batteries during the training year. They also participate in a weekly didactic seminar, which includes case presentations, lectures about personality theory, and lectures about personality testing and assessment.
