Addiction Psychology
The Externship in Addiction Psychology provides training for those interested in concentrating on the treatment of substance abuse disorders and for those who wish to gain experience in this work as a general part of their training. Externs complete two six-month rotations over the course of the year. Available rotations are:
Externs engage in individual and group therapy and conduct psychological assessments. A weekly seminar series led by the clinical staff of the Hospital’s Division of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse will explore a variety of issues associated with the addictions. Externs are also invited to participate in the Monday afternoon didactic seminar offered by the General Externship Program.
Training Period and Time Commitment:
Twelve-months long, beginning early September. Sixteen hours a week required.
Qualifications:
Open to graduate students enrolled in Ph.D. or Psy.D. programs in Clinical, School, or Counseling Psychology. Candidates must be familiar with the basic aspects of therapeutic interventions and psychological assessment. Previous training in addictions is not required.
