Description
The aim of this program is to provide qualified doctoral students with a high level of education and training to prepare competent future professionals. The diverse population served by Bellevue provides trainees with broad experience, improved clinical skills and enhanced cross-cultural sensitivity and competence. Externs complete two six-month rotations, spend one day a week in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, and carry a minimum of three outpatient psychotherapy cases. Trainees’ responsibilities and activities vary by service but include opportunities for individual and group psychotherapy, psychological and child neuropsychological assessment, psychosocial intakes, parent counseling and participation in inpatient milieu treatment. Experiences may also include the provision of clinical care to child and adolescent patients who are HIV/AIDS infected, as well as evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents at the A.C.S.- Bellevue Mental Health Service. The externship’s didactics include weekly case conferences, inpatient treatment team meetings, weekly seminar on Monday afternoons, Grand Rounds, and participation in unit and team meetings.
Training Period and Time Commitment:
Twelve months, beginning in July. Twenty hours a week required, including Monday afternoons.
Qualifications:
Open to third and fourth year graduate students enrolled in Ph.D. or Psy.D. programs in Clinical, School, or Counseling Psychology.
