About Us
The Bellevue Psychology Externship Programs offer clinical training to doctoral students in psychology. The mission of the Programs is to prepare graduate students in clinical, counseling, school and forensic psychology for Internship. The externships are based in the Department of Psychiatry of Bellevue Hospital Center located at 27th Street and First Avenue in Manhattan.
Externships are available in a variety of clinical settings within Bellevue, and thus the training opportunities represent the range of psychological services at the Hospital. The opportunities include a General Externship, which provides broad-based training in adult and child psychotherapy and includes intensive work in a selection of specialty clinics and units in the Hospital; a Comprehensive Child and Adolescent Psychology Externship Program, which provides a broad range of experience in treating that population; and more than a dozen Specialty Externships. All the programs provide training to students in the treatment or assessment of moderately to severely ill patients. The application requirements, training periods, practicum experiences and educational offerings for the programs vary.
