Administrative Fellowship Program

Administrative Fellowship Program Overview

NYU Langone Medical Center’s Administrative Fellowship is a one year full-time salaried program with the potential opportunity for a second year, and offers on-the-job training in the skills and responsibilities required of a hospital administrator in a major academic medical center. The Fellowship Program is both rotation and project based and as such, the Fellows’ functions are numerous, varied, and important. For example, Fellows are involved in:

  • Administrator on-call duties
  • Compliance and regulatory assessment
  • Financial decisions and budget review
  • Operational processes and workflow analysis
  • Policy evaluation and procedure development
  • Program design and implementation
  • Staff and line support
  • Utilization management analysis
  • Various supervisory, coordinating, and communication roles

The Administrative Fellowship Program is in some ways akin to physician training: the Fellows learn the job by assuming increasing levels of responsibility, while being supervised by senior-level administrators. In effect, the Fellows are entry-level administrators, who are involved in a participatory fashion with an unusually broad range of issues, personnel, and procedures.

The Fellows are placed at the very center of NYU Langone Medical Center’s major hospital programs, and work alongside the institution’s leaders and innovators. The opportunity provides 1-3 qualified masters-prepared students with an experience that is invaluable to their career growth and professional development.
