The NYU ADC offers a broad spectrum of counseling and support programs for people with family members of participants.
After every diagnostic evaluation, a counselor meets with each family to answer questions and provide resource information. A counselor is available by telephone to answer further questions.
We have pioneered in the development and study of interventions for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Our study, of an intervention for spouse-caregivers, funded by the NIA and ongoing since 1987, which has received national and international attention, has proved that counseling caregivers and family members can have long-lasting benefits, reducing caregiver depression and helping them keep their relatives at home with them.
We are currently enrolling participants in several studies to evaluate new ways of helping family members of people with Alzheimer’s disease.
If you have any questions about caring for a relative with memory problems of Alzheimer’s disease, call the FAMILY HELP LINE at (212)-263-5728 to speak to a counselor.
