This full-time one-year program has clinical rotations at Kirby Psychiatric
Center, the Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital Prison Ward and the Forensic
Psychiatry Clinic for the New York Criminal and Supreme Courts.
The didactic core curriculum includes a comprehensive introduction to
forensic psychiatry (in conjunction with the tri-state chapter of the
American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law); a seminar on ethical and
philosophical issues in the practice of forensic psychiatry (in conjunction
with the philosopher-in-residence program of the NYU-Bellevue Forensic
Psychiatry Service); and a journal club that reviews the latest literature
on issues and research in forensic psychiatry.
In addition, other courses and programs are presented by each clinical
facility under the auspices of the fellowship that bring it into compliance
with ACGME requirements. During the fellowship, each fellow is expected
to complete a research project with results suitable for submission to
a referreed professional journal. The project must demonstrate the fellow's
understanding of a major issue in the field and the ability to contribute
to scientific data on that issue.
