Two fellowship positions are currently available annually in consultation-liaison
psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital Center. Fellows participate in clinical
and educational activities including supervision of residents and medical
students. Fellows have an opportunity to consult on all units in the
general hospital and specialized inpatient liaison relationships can
be arranged according to the fellows' specific interests. Research opportunities
are available and strongly encouraged.
In addition, each fellow is assigned to a primary care "module" and
becomes the psychiatric liaison for the primary care physician covering
that module. The fellow is responsible for evaluation of psychiatric
referrals and formulation of a treatment plan together with the primary
care physician. The fellow also has the opportunity to supervise residents
and medical students rotating through the primary care module. Collaborative
research projects are encouraged.
The division of consultation-liaison psychiatry has an AIDS C/L service
that is staffed by both part-time and full-time faculty. Fellows gain
ample experience in inpatient consultation-liaison psychiatry on the
AIDS service and are currently doing C/L and outpatient rotations in
the Bellevue virology clinic.
