INTERACTIVE PHYSIOLOGY: MUSCULAR MODULE

A program from A.D.A.M. Software, Inc. on CD-ROM. May be installed on Macintosh, Windows 3.1, or Windows 95 equipment.

Goals

1. To review several elements of skeletal muscle function, by means of simulations, diagrams, and questions.

2. To understand, by means of animated simulations, excitation-contraction coupling and the sliding filament model of muscle contraction (sections entitled Neuromuscular Junction and Sliding Filament Theory, respectively).

3. To understand, by means of simulated experiments, recruitment of motor units, and length-tension relationships (sections entitled Contraction of Motor Units and Contraction of Whole Muscle, respectively).

4. To review anatomy and biochemistry of muscle, if needed.

Where to find the program

The CD-ROM may be obtained and viewed in the Computer Media Center.

General Description

This is an interactive review of skeletal muscle function and structure-function relationships. It is comprised of six sections:

Each unit includes a glossary and a quiz and there are links between units. There are animations, simulations, and sound effects. The module will take 1-2 hours to work through, depending on how many units you choose to do, and in how much detail.
