INTERACTIVE PHYSIOLOGY: CARDIOVASCULAR MODULE

A program from A.D.A.M. Software, Inc. on CD-ROM. May be installed on Macintosh, Windows 3.1, or Windows 95 equipment.

Goals

1. To review important elements of cardiac function and factors which affect blood circulation, by means of interactive simulations and questions.

2. To demonstrate the cardiac contraction and relaxation sequence and understand pressure-flow relationships during the cardiac cycle (section entitled Cardiac Cycle).

3. To review the factors which determine blood pressure and how blood pressure is regulated (sections entitled Cardiac Output, Factors that Affect Blood Pressure and Blood Pressure Regulation).

4. To review factors which regulate capillary blood flow and the balance of forces causing fluid movement across the capillary wall (Autoregulation and Capillary Dynamics).

Where to find the program

The CD-ROM may be obtained and viewed in the Computer Media Center.

General Description

This is an interactive review of cardiovascular function and structure. It is comprised of ten sections:

Each unit includes a glossary and a quiz and there are links between units. There are animations, simulations, and sound effects. Each section takes 15-30 min. to complete, including the quiz questions.
