Thousands of top physicians in the New York area completed a survey that asked them to nominate top doctors in almost every specialty. Castle Connolly then refined the list based on hundreds of interviews with leading specialists, chiefs of service and other hospital personnel, and published a guidebook Top Doctors: New York Metro area.
The magazine list is a shorter version, designed to offer geographic balance for the magazine's readership and a broad specialty representation.
